New EU Entry/Exit System (EES) – Effective October 12, 2025
Since October 2025, the European Union has implemented the Entry/Exit System (EES), a digital border control system for non-EU travelers entering the Schengen Area. This system replaces traditional passport stamping with biometric data collection to enhance security and streamline entry procedures.

Key Details:
Biometric Data Collection: Upon first entry, travelers will provide fingerprints and a facial photograph. This data will be stored digitally for up to three years and used for future border crossings within the Schengen Area.
Gradual Rollout: The EES will be phased in over six months, with full implementation expected by April 10, 2026. During this period, some border crossings may still use traditional passport stamps.
No Pre-Registration Required: Travelers do not need to register in advance. However, be prepared for slightly longer processing times as the system is adopted.
Exemptions: Children under 12 years old are exempt from fingerprint scans. EU citizens and residents with long-term visas are not affected by this system.
